Guess Who's Knitting

It's September 2011 and where oh where has the time gone? My summer has been filled with a lot of sadness as two friends passed away from cancer, horrible cancer. Norma Campbell died on July 2nd and Gene Armantrout went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 10th. Both Norma and Gene were believers of Jesus Christ and are in heaven, both left loving families and both had horrible cancers but fought as good a fight as anyone could have. I had not been close to Norma for years but saw Gene most days in the backyard garden that he loved so dearly. Ray and I miss him.

I'm a quilt pattern junkie.  Add stitchery and you got me.  There is a new one out there that  you might not have heard of yet.  Leanna Green from Australia has designed a really cute BOM and you get the designs each month from the Homespun Magazine website.  The center block comes in issue 12.4 of the Homespun magazine but after that purchase you get all the blocks free that go around the center.  It's really cute and should be fun to do.  Check it out, you'll love it.

Life

I have been thinking a lot lately about this blog.  I read a lot of blogs and really enjoy them.  When I started this one I just knew that I'd write a lot and post cute pictures for all to see of the many things I enjoy in my life.  However, life just gets in the way sometime. 

I've decided to try again and see if I can keep it up and hopefully someone might want to read it.  If not, I'll have to decide what to do but for now I will attempt to post things important to me.  I have to say it was pretty interesting looking back at the old posts and seeing what was going on.  If you have read any of them then you know Cats are a big thing in my house and outside.  But there are other things too and if I get my act together you will see some of them.

Spring is in the air

The weather is getting warm this week and it's making it hard to stay inside and work.  I guess spring fever has bit me and I love it.

There's a 3 day weekend for me this week and I'm really looking forward to completing some things that "just need/have to be done" then on to more exciting things.

There are knitting projects waiting, quilts to be finished or started, stitchery in my dreams and lots of other things to ponder as the weather perks up just like my crocus. 

these little babies are starting to peek up from the ground where they have been sleeping and I can't wait to see their smiling faces.

 

I'll leave you all with dreams of flowers, sunny days and sandals.  It's just around the corner.

do you think it will ever get warm again?

 
Things could be worse.  We could live in Northern Virginia or better yet, anywhere above Philadelphia and we would have lots of snow, way more snow than I want to deal with on a daily basis.  Yesterday's weird weather with thunder, lightening and heavy rain/sleet then snow was about as much as I'd like to have.  Got up this morning to a frozen car but the roads were good.  Not so for my company's office in Manassas.  They lost power, have lots of snow and a mess.  Can't even imagine what NY or Boston have.  Do you like snow?  How much is too much for you?

 

I've been quiet for a while, trying to get focused on stuff.  Why is it that we have so many things that need our attention and we just can't go home after a day at work and play?  Drive home, cook dinner or go find something to eat, clean up the mess, relax and off to bed, then it starts again.  Almost like that movie with Bill Murray "Groundhog Day".  Do you ever just want to go lay on a warm beach, read a book and have someone come by to bring you a nice big Pina Colada or Mai Tai?  wouldn't that be nice right about now.  I think I could do it.  so, who wants to come and babysit my herd of cats?  I think that is my problem.  Too many cats.  I enjoy them, love them but wonder sometime how I got so many and why?  Have you ever wondered "how did I get into this"?

Well other than reading a bit, knitting a bit and thinking about quilting a bit, nothing much is going on in my house.  I have been winning a few little things on blogs, a book here, a pattern there

Veterans Day November 11, 2010

I have today off.  What do you like to do when you get a whole day at home?  I think I take after my mother more and more each day and her love was cooking.  Boy she was an awesome cook.  Not fancy food, just plain good ole home cooked country food.  Growing up in a very small town in Virginia in the late 50s and the 60s was wonderful.  I loved all the good vegetables available from our gardens and I still love it today.  That's why on this day off to honor theVeterans of our great country you will find me in the kitchen.  What's cooking today?

 

Country Style Steak cooked in a thick rich gravy, home grown green beans, mashed potatoes and I'm trying out a new bread recipe from a blog, Patchwork Times that sounded so good.  Sweet Potato Bread.  It's in the kitchen rising for the first time.  I'll let you know if it's as good as it looks on Judy's blog.

 

What else is going on?  I should be knitting or quilting or something crafty but lately I feel like I've lost my mojo.  What do I need to do to find it?  I think part of the problem is I just hurt all over and pretty badly some days so I just don't do anything.  Do you know what I mean?

 

Also in my house are 4 itty bitty kittens that I'm trying to find homes for.  Today they are 7 weeks old.  They are doing pretty good getting use to people picking them up.  I caught them in my greenhouse last week, they've been inside 1 week.  Don't know the sexes yet, it's hard to figure cause they are so little but here's their first group picture where you can see how precious they are.  Let me know if you need a little baby in your house.
