veggies-first picking from our garden of 2009

just a start but looking good.

Green beans, tomatoes and biscuits.  I'm going to snap these beans and cook them in a pot with some red potatoes, make some biscuits, slice the 2 large tomatoes from our vines and ...dinner!  nothing could be better expect more tomatoes and maybe some lima beans.  They aren't ready yet.

It's hot this Sunday, right now it's about 92* so I'm piddling in the house the rest of the day.  Might make some cookies.  need a chocolate fix!

Enjoy your Sunday!

garden pics from a week ago

I'll have more pictures today.  The garden is growing by leaps and bounds.  Today I will pick our first mess of Kentucky wonder green beans.  They are so pretty.  Tomatoes are turning red which means biscuits and tomatoes, my favorite.  The purple hull peas are really neat watching how they grow, the limas that we pulled up and replanted are starting to flower.  It's all just so exciting.  Bought my pressure canner, several cookbooks for instruction and ideas (thanks CJ for all the suggestions) and have stocked up on cans so I guess I'm ready.  Nothing is better than homegrown veggies in the dead of winter when nothing tastes good from the grocery store.

for now, a few pictures from last week in the garden

P1010339  P1010341 do you see the blooms...

P1010345 now they are nice long green beans ready to be cooked...I'll show you when I pick them..

P1010346 these are the puple hull peas

P1010347 this little white flower becomes the pea pod...pretty neat when it turns brown and falls off..

P1010349 carrot tops are growing nicely, and the limas are starting to run, remember these are from last week, the limas are getting little flowers now.  I'll take pics today.

I leave you with a couple pictures of our Kiwi.  We planted this 3 years ago.  Haven't harvested Kiwi yet, last year we had one the size of a thimble.  This year we have seen 2 so far and they are a little bigger.  If you know anyone who grows Kiwi, get me some growing hints.

P1010353 do you see the little Kiwi?  It has a long way to go before you could eat it.

Well, I'm off to take more pictures, come back soon and see how this garden is growing.

In the meantime, go and have some fun today!

A blog win on a giveaway

I have become totally addicted to reading blogs, love them, get great ideas for recipes, crafts and house stuff online.  There are a lot of talented people out there.  I register for giveaways when there is something that interests me and on a rare occasion I win.  This is my latest surprise.

INKINGO- if you haven't seen this check out the website

http://www.lindafranz.com/

She has the most amazing way of doing hand piecing of quilt blocks and you can also use this for machine.  Precise, Precise, Precise.

Anyway, there is a yahoo group and they were having a contest and I won one of the kits for Inklingo, a starter type kit and it came last week in the mail.  Today I'm reading everything and going to try to do it.  Wish me well.

Val1

Thanks Val for such a nice little kit.  Love the colors together.  Hope I can do it correctly.  Looks like lots of fun.
I'll show the finish if I'm successful.

Funny cats we can't live without

If you have cats then you know they have a way of wrapping themselves around your heart.  We have 4, 2 inside and 2 strays that are now living with us and sleeping inside at night.  The 2 inside cats we have had for 9 and 8 years.  They are our cat babies.  Funny thing about cats, you can never figure them out.
The other day Ray bought some new jeans and put them on the kitchen island to take to the alteration shop to be hemmed.  This is what we found there when we came up from the back of the house.
P1010245 Our 8 year old Missy asleep on the jeans.  She loves to sleep on Ray's clothes.  Guess she wants to leave a few hairs on there to remind him of her always.  She is a mess.  She is also the one who licks all the hair off and if you look close you can see part of a bare back leg.

Then today what do I find?

P1010247 This is Emma, our 9 year old male.  He loves the Velux blanket on my bed.  I went in to get dirty clothes and this is what I found.  No one helped him get under the blankets.  Found this at 10:00am and he is still asleep there now at 2:00pm.  What a spoiled baby.

Hope your Sunday is going well, mine is lazy which suits me fine.  I needed a break after a particularly hectic week.
